Lovely spacious gite in excellent location for exploring (Copied from Trip Advisor)

Clare & Nigel | 03/09/2022 |
Le Fitou was a great location from which to explore the beautiful Midi. There was plenty of room inside and outside the large pool and surrounding garden gave us the perfect place to relax - and BBQ some evenings. More than that, Roger and Jane were the perfect hosts - guiding us to visit destinations and restaurants which we would never have known about without their excellent advice. They made a good holiday perfect.

We have a lovely week in La Fitou. Roger and Jane were great hosts and were happy to help with advice on best places to visit and also if we needed anything during our stay. The villa is set in beautiful surroundings with a lovely pool and garden. The villa was also well equipped with everything we needed. We would highly recommend visiting the villa and we hope to go back again.

Well equipped Gite in a small village in SW France Only 40 mins from Beziers airport, 50 mins from Carcassonne and 40mins from the coast. Canal Du Midi within walking distance (20mins) The gite is fully equipped with everything you could wish for and the pool is large and spotlessly clean with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas Beds comfortable and rooms spacious and airy. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, cutlery etc . Roger and Jane are perfect hosts and are always on hand to help with booking restaurants, suggestions for days out, directions etc Comfortable clean accommodation, fantastic pool and perfect hosts, what more could you ask for? Fresh croissants in the morning? Just 2 mins to shop in the village. Perfect!!!

We have stayed many times with Roger and Jane Hollings. the reasons we keep returning are as follows: They are first rate hosts who go over and above anywhere else we have stayed. The location of the property is excellent in a charming location close to beaches The Canal du Midi and beautiful and historical places to visit something for all ages within walking distance of excellent restaurants as well. Le Fitou itself has beautiful grounds and a first class pool. The inside of the property is again spotlessly clean with everything families could possibly need for a great holiday. We will again be returning again in the future hopefully next year but have to mention Roger and Jane once again who make this property so special and well worth a visit.

Great Time! (Copy of review on VRBO/Abritel)

We had an excellent time staying at this residence. Very clean, extremely kind and considerate hosts (Roger and Jane) - and very, very helpful people with great tips. The pool was great and there was a lot more to do in this region than what we had expected (we are glad that we spent 2 weeks and not just one).

Fantastic holiday - lovely house, pool and wonderful hosts! (copy of review on Trip Advisor)

Charley | 01/08/2020 |
We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at Le Fitou. The house itself was perfect for our family holiday and we all made great use of the lovely pool, (and floaties!) which is shared by Jane and Roger (although we had it pretty much entirely to ourselves for two weeks!) The village is sweet and there is a small shop within 5 mins walk, where we headed every morning for our fresh croissants and baguettes. There is also a restaurant, perfect for family meals within easy walking distance, down by the local river - also a beautiful wild swimming spot. There is lots to see and do in the local area - including pretty villages, more nice river swimming spots and great beaches. Jane and Roger were fantastic hosts - nothing was too much trouble and they were always on hand when needed for restaurant advice and providing information about days out and of course where to buy wine! Their two dogs were delightful and well behaved, and our daughters loved playing with them. Highly recommended - we will definitely be returning.

A spacious and well equipped Gite in a great location (copy of review on Trip Advisor)

Tony | 18/09/2019 |
Located within the delightful village of Mirepeisset and with easy access to roads for exploring the many attractions and cities the area has to offer. The historic cities of Narbonne, Beziers and of course Carcassonne (all deserving of a visit) are within 1 hours drive. The property itself has been sympathetically updated with attention to detail and an abundance of tlc. A superbly maintained pool set within a stunning and well maintained garden. The owners, Roger & Jane, could not be more helpful with their recommendations of places to visit and most importantly, eat! Their knowledge of the area is really second to none and made the holiday for us. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

Richard | 05/09/2019 |
As sometimes happens we arrived a few hours later due to flight delays, luckily Roger & Jane had given us their mobile numbers so knew exactly when we would be arriving via text. We were warmly greeted We’ve always had decent welcome packs at almost all the previous five properties we’ve used in France over the past three years. The welcome pack at Le Fitou was exceptional, thank goodness - as we arrived with nothing. Beer wine Ham, cheeses, pasta, sauces, yoghurts, fruit bread – plenty in fact for an evening meal. We quickly ran out of wine and beers which Roger replenished on our first evening there. Roger also took time out to ask us what we would like to do whilst in the area and gave us plenty of information and maps regarding the village and further afield which was useful to know. Everything you need equipment wise is there for you to use as described and fully functional. Four of us including two 80 year old parents stayed at this property for a couple of nights before spending 8 days at La Fleurie. The area itself is as interesting as it is delightful- visit Narbonne and its Halles (indoor market), Minerve and Beziers are also worth a visit. Would we return to The Winemakers House – Yes of course.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here with our three boys. It was a real home from home. Absolutely everything we needed was provided for; comfortable beds with beautiful linen, excellent towels, a fully stocked pantry and the most generous welcome pack we've ever seen all in immaculately clean, spacious accommodation. Pool towels and beach towels provided so no need to fill the cases with these. Jane and Roger were welcoming, caring and discrete providing us with lots of useful information about where to go and when, and the boys loved the dogs. There are lots of beautiful places to visit in easy reach, so we had cultural days in Carcassonne, Narbonne and Minerve. Lazy days by the river in Roquebrun and a couple of days at the beach, all interspersed with lots of playing in the huge, clean pool. Many thanks Roger and Jane we had a great holiday at Le Fitou, we hope to see you again soon.

We had a wonderful time at Le Fitou. Roger and Jane were excellent hosts, full of interesting information about the surrounding areas and some excellent recommendations of places to see/eat out which we took them up on. The property itself is lovely and peaceful and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We travelled with two small children and the property and outside space were suitable for them. Thanks for a great time!

Fabulous pool and spacious comfortable rooms (Copy of review on Trip Advisor)

In the middle of a heatwave the wonderful long and deep pool was essential. We loved this gite and found lots to do. Staying in reading swimming or painting or out exploring the picturesque villages in the hills. Narbonne only a short drive away. So many really good restaurants in the vicinity. will definitely return

Le Fitou, part of The Winemaker's House, can be found in the quiet, but friendly village of Mirepeisset. The standard of accommodation is excellent and the owners, Roger and Jane could not have been more helpful, advising us about places to visit, and restaurants to try. This part of France is an absolute gem, with many historical castles, beautiful villages and vibrant towns eg Narbonne and Carcassonne to visit. We also enjoyed walking along Le Canal du Midi and sampling local wines. I could go on and on about how much I enjoy this place. It's our second visit here, and we will most certainly be back.

Perfect location (Copy of review on Trip Advisor)

Howard | 01/06/2019 |
After a warm welcome from Roger and Jane we settled into our gite for the week. It was well equipped and spotless. Our hosts had also left us a starter pack of supplies for our first night. The pool area was lovely and again well equipped with beds, umbrellas and bbq. The large pool was surrounded by a well maintained deck area with plenty of room for sun bathing. The bedrooms were large and the beds comfortable. The main bedroom had an en-suite, additionally there was a bathroom upstairs and a toilet downstairs. The accommodation could not be faulted and came with plenty of parking. The location of the gite was excellent. With a general store 5 minutes walk away in the village and excellent restaurants on the canal du midi within a few minutes drive. Wander a little further and there were historic towns to explore and beautiful beaches to keep the children happy. All of these were easy to find thanks to the information pack supplied by the owners. For a relaxing and enjoyable stay we can recommend both Le Fitou and La Fleurie having taken both for the week.

Wonderful family break (copy of review on Chez Nous)

The Gite was of a very high standard and incredibly well equipped. The welcome pack provided was great and ensured we didn’t need to rush straight to the supermarket – a very thoughtful touch that was very gratefully received. Roger and Jane were the perfect hosts and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Their knowledge of the local area was great and helped build a good itinerary for our week. Overall we had a wonderful family break and would certainly return.

Fantastic Discovery (copy of review on Trip Advisor)

Simon & Megan | 14/05/2019 |
Four heavenly days at The Winemakers House in Le Fitou. A beautiful, spacious, well equipped comfortably furnished gite. A home from home in terms of facilities, plus a large pool, lovely garden, even Sky TV for the heathen. Roger & Jane’s attention to detail was much appreciated, we wanted for nothing. Their warm welcome and arrival briefing meant we had 4 really good days seeing and doing much more than we’d planned. Fantastic location and lots to do, the kids will love it when we return.

Jimmy | 15/09/2018 |
Great Gite and a fantastic swimming pool. Roger and Jane were the perfect hosts and we particularly appreciated the very generous welcome pack they provided. All the basic amenities (washing materials, toilet paper etc) were also in plentiful supply and we wished all other Home Away properties would do the same! The village is lovely and very welcoming with two good restaurants within walking distance and many others within a short drive. No hesitation in recommending this Gite and just follow Roger and Janes suggested itineraries, you wont go far wrong! Thanks again for a great stay. The Plants!

The Winemaker's House was everything we hoped it would be.In an ideal location for exploring the area, it was immaculately presented, whilst offering lots of character and original French features. The owners, Roger and Jane, were extremely helpful, providing us with food on arrival, and giving us lots of very useful information about places to visit, and restaurants in the area. The garden area was well stocked with beautiful plants, and flowers in profusion. An excellent swimming pool was extremely welcome, at the end of a busy day, exploring the area. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend Le Fitou; indeed, we have already booked for next year.

Just returned from a delightful week staying with friends in Le Fitou at the Winemakers House. Very spacious and comfortable and spotless inside and out with all facilities as listed on website Jane and Roger are superb hosts providing an excellent welcome pack of essentials (and treats) on arrival and went above and beyond in providing guidance and information if required about getting the most out of your visit to this beautiful and historic part of France. Ideal base for looking around or just chilling out. The village is small and quiet with a shop providing bread and essentials, and a supermarket and Pharmacy are only a 5 minute drive. La Garenne restaurant and Bar is good and only short walk to the river/ campsite. Le Somail on the canal is only 20 minutes walk or 5 min in the car with L'O a la Bouche and several other good restaurants on the canal. 1.5 hr drive from Montpellier Airport/ Less from Carcassonne or Beziers. Narbonne, Carcassonne ,Minerve ,Ventenac , Assignan are all within easy reach with great restaurants recommended by Jane and Roger.with easy reach by car Thanks to Jane and Roger - top marks overall and will be back for more.

English (google) translation of review: Perfect, super nice house, everything you need for a nice holiday. Everything you need is available in and around the house. Terrace, parking place for car and bicycles. Enough utensils, glasses, household items. Everything very clean. Heating ceiling washing machine... Jane and Roger are very nice helpful and always a good idea in stock. Also at the end of March the pool was filled with water to delight the children. The two little lovable dogs made the happiness perfect. The house is very quiet and still the little shop, for baguette and everything else you need just a few steps away. We had a wonderful holiday despite the early season.

This house is a dream. It has all you need on a holiday, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms perfect. The pool is of a good size and immaculate, located in a beautiful garden with a patio. The owners are extremely helpful and organise trips and excursions according to your needs. We have rented many places but this is by far the best. The village is small but has a little store and bakery.

Perfect for a family holiday (Copy of review on Trip Advisor)

We were delighted to find that this beautiful property fully lived up to its pictures and were especially happy with the high quality of the fittings and little touches such as soap and shower gel, sufficient towels and an extremely welcome selection of food to cover dinner and breakfast which allowed us to relax on arrival and shop when we were ready. We spent most of our time at the property relaxing round the beautifully kept pool on comfortable sun loungers and enjoyed eating our meals outside in a lovely private shaded area. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and good at suggesting places to visit.

A French holiday to remember in a lovely gite in a fantastic location (copy of review on Home Away)

Janine | 29/07/2017 |
Just returned from a wonderful week spent in the Aude region of the Languedoc . Le Fitou is a traditional French gite with a large pool, sun beds and well kept garden situated in a small village location near to the Canal Midi and the beautiful historic towns of Narbonne and Carcassonne. It is well equipped with spacious bedrooms and modern bathrooms. One of my memories will be waking up with the sunshine gleaming ,overlooking the garden and pool and listening to the church bells ringing. Roger and Jane ( plus lovely Lupin the small friendly dog) are fantastic friendly hosts; they have researched the local area well and subsequently know the best places to visit including restaurants, beaches and historic villages. We have stayed in many gites and villas during the last 10 years in France and the welcome pack was the best ever, thank you. My family and I look forward to returning in the future.

Superb Accommodation (Copy of review on Home Away)

Gregor | 08/07/2017 |
We (mum, dad plus sons 18 and 20) spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Le Fitou. We became 5 when joined by a son's friend in the second week. More than enough space and very comfortable- large living room with adjacent, well equipped, kitchen and dining room. We didn't use the dining room much, as we tended to eat on the shaded patio table just outside the kitchen, beyond which was a large, clean and essential (it was very hot) swimming pool within a beautiful garden. 3 good sized and comfortable bedrooms equipped with fans (essential at night). We loved it. Our hosts, Roger and Jane, could not have been more kind and helpful. They were full of information about the local area (places to visit, good restaurants, the best beaches, parking in nearby towns) which is so useful when you only have 2 precious weeks' of holiday. The location was perfect. So many interesting places to visit within an hour's drive. The furthest we travelled was to beautiful Montpellier, which took about an hour, but Beziers and Narbonne could be reached within 30 mins or so). Carcasonne about 45 mins. Memories will include: the village annual fancy dress barge race; boating on the canal; drinking with the locals at the nearby woodland bar; walking by the river to a beautiful nearby village called Le Somail (you must eat at the restaurant next to the second hand bookshop- Roger and Jane will give you the details); swimming in nearby rivers; wine tasting (if you throw a stone here, you will hit a vineyard); the boys and dad being pulled behind a speed boat at the nearby beach; eating grilled sardines and drinking wine at the beach restaraunt; 10km kayak ride (fantastic!); opening the shutters every morning to perfect weather. Thank you again to Jane and Roger for stocking our fridge with a few essentials prior to arrival. So kind. We will return!

Super gite in a lovely village (copy of review from Home Away)

Mandy | 10/06/2017 |
We had a fabulous two weeks in this lovely place. The gite is very clean and well equipped, with a generous supply of groceries/consumables so no need to rush to the supermarket on arrival. Superb pool! Roger and Jane are very welcoming hosts with a good knowledge of the area. The village is lovely. Walking to the shop for fresh croissants every morning is a pleasure when you are openly greeted by local residents. There are so many places to visit within easy travelling distance and also a great selection of eateries in the area. Looking forward to returning soon.

We had a wonderful week in this lovely French house in a village with everything you need. The house is tastfully furnished, well equipped and comfortable. The owners, Roger and Jane are really welcoming and helpful. The shared pool is great, in an attractive garden. You have a friendly shop and restaurant just minutes walk away. A perfect French village in a fascinating area. Thoroughly recommend.

Fabulous family-friendly gite (copy of review on Home Away)

Lisa | 20/08/2016 |
We are a family of four (two 7 year old children) and wanted a well equipped, comfortable space with a good pool to spend our two week summer holiday. As the gite slept six we took advantage of inviting some friends and then some family to stay. We wanted a nice environment to relax in by the pool so the kids could play but also be near some areas of interest if we wanted to explore. Le Fitou was the perfect balance of this. We had long lazy days by the gorgeous and generously sized pool and we had many wonderful excursions - suggested by the well-informed owners. Nothing was too much trouble and Roger and Jane were very happy to provide the extra bed linen required for our various guests in addition to our own requirements. Having them next door proved very helpful as they were on hand to recommend tried and tested restaurants, beaches or places to visit. But most of the time we felt that we had the place to ourselves. The property was very well maintained and had everything we required - dish washer, washing machine etc and a well equipped kitchen. The rooms were generous and nicely decorated and there was plenty of room even when there were six people occupying the Gite. We would definitely recommend this Gite and already have and I expect that we will be back soon for another visit.

A lovely gite in a great area (Copy of review from Home Away)

Judith | 13/08/2016 |
We had a great holiday at Le Fitou. The gite was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It has a lovely pool and garden area which is great for relaxing. Roger and Jane were extremely helpful and gave some good advice about where to visit and where to eat. We particularly enjoyed hiring bikes at Paraza and the meal we had at L'O a la Bouche in Le Somail. We will definitely return.

Fantastic Fun in Le Fitou! (Copy of review on Home Away)

This was our 2nd time at Le Fitou and it as lovely as we remembered. It is a lovely Gite spotlessly clean and very well equipped, with a fabulous pool. It really is a perfect place from which to explore all the area has to offer. Roger and Jane are the perfect hosts, discreet but always on hand with their recommendations and knowledge of the local area. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back again!

From the wrought iron gates, pebble drive and bougainvillea to the gites and garden with pool le fitou is perfect to relax in the French surroundings. The village has all you might need: a store for fresh bread and two tavernas. Nearby there are rivers for canoeing, towns perched on cliffs and wonderful beaches. And of course , not to forget the vineyards and superb restaurants . Go!!

Fantastic family holiday in beautiful gite (copy of review on Trip Advisor)

Clare | 02/07/2016 |
We were so pleased that the gorgeous winemaker's house behind the green gates was in fact our holiday home for the next week! We were greeted by owners Roger and Jane with big smiles, a walk-around the property and a glass of rosé while the children splashed in the beautiful pool. We came for a week's holiday with our family to relax and enjoy the sunshine, gorgeous countryside and of course delicious food and wine and we were not disappointed! Le Fitou is beautifully decorated and has everything you need - from a washing machine to an electric whisk. The pool area and garden are a view to behold - the flowers are beautiful thanks to Jane. Le Fitou is brilliantly located two minutes walk from the village shop so we had fresh baguette and croissants each morning and there are also many nice walks and bike rides on your doorstep. Roger and Jane are fantastic hosts and are always there if you need them but also discreet if you would prefer some quiet time. Their welcome pack of food basics was also greatly appreciated so we didn't have to head straight to the supermarket on our first evening. Would definitely recommend!

Delightful accommodation and hosts (Copy of review on Home Away)

The property was beautifully maintained with lots of nice personal touches (colourful throws and cushions on the beds, pretty pictures etc) Well equipped kitchen, plenty of storage space for suitcases etc. Lots of information about the area and our hosts were excellent sources of information and only too willing to help out with suggestions to help us have a great holiday, Good local store and restaurant. Plenty of goodies in the fridge to start us off! Good size pool for the swimmers and plenty of beach towels for the more lazy. Highly recommended!

Welcoming and when can I come back?

Mel | 21/05/2016 |
Le Fitou, is a bright comfortable and welcoming Gite to stay in. We found it spotlessly clean, with everything you could need for your stay, comfortable bed, good shower, nice kitchen Wi Fi and should you want to watch TV Sky is provided. The Gite is attached to the main house and as you drive through the gates you are presented with in my view a beautiful typical large French house. There is a very nice outside space which the owners have made quite private where you can eat. The pool is shared with the owners but is just lovely, a good size for swimming with comfy poolside loungers. The hosts Roger and Jane made us so welcome and were so helpful in recommending places to visit in the area.

Absolument parfait

Isabelle | 04/05/2016 |

Gorgeous setting, very peaceful, loved it.

Mary Theresa C. | 01/05/2016 |
Le Fitou is beautiful, stunning surroundings with a delightful view of the church/clock tower from the garden. The inside is furnished to a high standard and was exceptionally clean on our arrival. An added bonus was thatJane & Roger left some food and wine supplies in case we weren't able to get to the supermarket. It was a lovely gesture. Once we'd settled and unpacked our hosts invited us for a glass of wine and a bit of an introduction to the area and site's. A lovely surprise was meeting Lupin their friendly dog who paid us a daily visit and was very welcome to us. The surrounding area has plenty of activities or you can just relax. The village isn't far from anywhere and the roads are well sign posted. Our villa was supplied with a most welcomed & detailed map. Roger & Jane include leaflets and places of interest to visit. There is a lovely small restaurant 3 minutes walk from Le Fitou run by Vincent who will take very good care of you. Overall we had a lovely relaxing stay. Jane & Roger certainly made us feel welcomed. We would recommend their accommodation without hesitation. Thanks for all your kindness.

Perfect family rental in a FAB region of France

| 01/10/2015 |
We have rented this gite 4 times in the last 8 years. The only place in the world we've ever gone back to more than once! The rental is clean, spacious and well-equipped. The lovely owners had even stocked the fridge and pantry before our arrival with all the basic essentials. We're usually a family of 4 but we were 6 for one of our trips and there was plenty of room for all of us. The pool and garden are well maintained and you just feel all of your stresses melting away while sitting on the patio enjoying local wine, cheese and produce. We can't get enough of this area and all it has to offer - local markets, beaches, wine-tasting, early morning runs along the Canal du Midi, white water rafting in the Pyrenees, day trips to Spain, kayaking, etc. We find something new to do or area to discover on every trip. And this gite is in the perfect spot to discover it all.

Fabulous (copy or review on Trip Advisor)

We spent a family holiday at Le Fitou in July 2015 and I can honestly say it was one of the best we have had. Le Fitou is a charming and very well-kept property. There were only four of us, but it could have very comfortably accommodated six, and it is very reasonably priced. The house is spotless and very well equipped with some nice little touches, including generous basic food essentials on arrival, vases of fresh-cut flowers, good quality linen and towels and plenty of toiletries. It has been very tastefully decorated and furnished. Every morning we would stroll to the lovely little village shop to buy delicious fresh bread and croissants. And we’d be back by the time the coffee had brewed. For an excellent choice of fish, meat, local fruit and vegetables there’s a good supermarket only a few minutes drive away and the gated parking directly in front of the house makes it all very convenient. At the back is a lovely private patio for relaxing and eating al fresco. For our 12-year-old twin boys the very well maintained and good size swimming pool was one of the highlights. It is very safe and it is quiet and peaceful, set in the pretty and well-tended walled garden. Other than on the few occasions when we could persuade the boys to go exploring the nearby towns and countryside they spent most of their time in the pool and rated it 10/10, both for fun and cleanliness. Although shared with the owners, you rarely see them as they are very discreet and only tend to use it when guests are not there. But when you do want to see them, Roger and Jane are fantastic hosts and always happy to provide excellent suggestions of places and nearby restaurants to visit. The white-water canoeing and a privately chartered boat trip on the Canal du Midi were great fun. For a change from the pool, there is some lovely nearby river-swimming and the beach that they recommended at Narbonne was very pleasant and uncrowded. It has given us some lovely memories and the boys are already asking when we will be going back …

LE FITOU comfortably sleeps 6 and is furnished to a high standard.

It has its own private front entrance which opens into a foyer, which in turn leads into the spacious beamed living room with two large windows overlooking the courtyard. There is Wi Fi throughout, Cable TV and a CD Player and a small library of books.

Off the living room is a separate laundry room equipped with a washing machine and toilet.

Also off the living room is the fully equipped kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc. The glass kitchen door allows in plenty of light as well as leading you out to your private patio and the pool and garden area.

Adjoining the living room is a separate dining room with large window overlooking your patio, and the stairs leading to the upper floor.

The master bedroom has a large window overlooking the pool and walled garden; and an en suite bathroom.
There are two twin bedrooms, both with windows overlooking the courtyard, and a large shared bathroom.

Le Fitou is tiled throughout the ground floor, the windows have curtains and shutters, and it is equipped with heating for chillier months. Linen and towels are included (and special beach towels can also be provided).

There is a patio area for your private use, partly covered for shelter, if desired, from the hot sun. There are tables and chairs, a BBQ, sun beds with comfortable cushions and parasols. There are also pool toys and floats.

Besides your private patio, the entire garden and pool patio surround is also for your use.  The swimming pool is a large 5 metre x 11 metre (17 feet x 36 feet), set into a beautiful walled & landscaped provincial garden.

The pool is exclusively reserved for holidaymakers, only the garden is partially shared with us (Véronique & Jean-Luc).
